PBC Gallery Black-throated Diver Gavia arctica, Dog in a Doublet, 7-11 February 2003 Pictures by Steve Dudley |
The first in the Peterborough area for 15 years, which oddly was found during calm, mild weather. It frequented the non-tidal river Nene west of the sluice. Another bird appeared at Grafham Water on the same day.
The pale vermiculations formed by the mantle and scapular fringes clearly age this as a first winter bird. Adults are much more uniformly dark.
