PBC Gallery Grey Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus, February 2002 Pictures by Steve Dudley |
It is very likely that it is the same individual that was Rutland Water from 28 January to 2 February. This is a first winter, aged by the dark tertials covering the primaries.
The bird was unfortunately on a private site and arrangements could not be made to allow general viewing.
This represents probably the fifth record for the Peterborough Bird club area. The first was one shot at Wansford in 1890. There are a further 3 recent records: 1 at Peterborough Sewage Farm in 1948, 1 at Stibbington in 1962 and 1 at Baston in 1981. This is also the first record for Cambridgeshire in February and only the second outside the period September-December. The other was the 1948 Peterborough bird which was in May.
