Apart from one shot on Thorney Fen in 1849, there are just two other records, both on the Nene Washes: 25 Aug 1999 and 24 Jul 2000. Both of these birds only stayed a few hours and the latest seems to have kept up this pattern with a stay of less than 4 hours.
This follows a series of records of a party of three and singles at sites in Northamptonshire. Although the Northants reports had local birders watching out for birds moving through the area, few can have expected one to turn up on a drain near Sawtry.
