This individual can be confidently aged as a first winter by the retained and worn juvenile coverts. A rather unexpected find on this small muddy island in front of a new housing estate. But the same area has produced several Grey Plovers recently and the same observer has found Knot on two other occasions very nearby (both spring birds in summer plumage).

Large flocks of Golden Plover occur here and there were 500 plus here on this day. They have been building up in numbers again following a reduction during cold weather. Looks like they may have brought a companion back with them.
