A COUNT of 18 Great Crested Grebes was made at Orton BP on 26 Sep (BS). A (presumably feral) Pink-footed Goose was at Ferry Meadows from 2 Oct until the 9th (TS) and two Barnacle Geese were there from 28 Sep until 4 Oct on (TS, DB). Three Mandarin Ducks were at Haddon on 3 Oct (AF). A maximum of 22 Wigeon were at Ferry Meadows on 20th and 22 (TS). 33 plus were at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 22 Sep (SD) and 60 at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH). 30 plus were at Tansor GP on 23 Sep (BS), 49 at Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW) and 3 at Drysides Pit on 17 Oct (GW). Gadwall were at Tansor GP (2) on 23 Sep (BS); Ferry Meadows (max. 8 on 28 Sep, DB); and Baston/Langtoft GP (1 on 15 Oct, TW). 87 Teal were counted at Ferry Meadows on 28 Sep (DB). 22 Shoveler were at Ferry Meadows Wader Scrape on 4 Oct (GW). 19 Pochard were at Orton BP on 26 Sep (BS); 38 at CEGB reservoir on 14 Oct (GW); and 193 at Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW). 70 Tufted Duck were at Orton BP on 26 Sep (BS). A male Ruddy Duck was at Tansor GP on 23 Sep (BS) and one at Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW).

A Buzzard sp was seen at Flag Fen on 19 Sep (BS). The big influx of Honey Buzzards nationally was marked by the following sightings around Peterborough: two were at Welland Bank on 22 Sep (AB); two at Morborne Hill on the same day (DP); one at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (JO, MH, DP) and a dark juvenile at Chesterton on the same day (BS); one at Monks Wood on 27th and 28 Sep with two on the 30th (RB). A Red Kite was seen at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (JO et al.), four were to the west of Elton on 24 Sep (BS) and one was at Apethorpe on 28 Sep (TW). A Marsh Harrier was at Baston Fen on the 13th and 24 Aug and on 17 Sep (JR). One at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 20 Sep (BS), three plus on 22 Sep (SD) and one 25 Sep (BS). Five were at Eldernell to 6 on 21 Sep (BS) and 14 roosted there on 28 Sep (GRH). Sparrowhawks were seen at: Baston Fen (KKH), Stanground Wash (GW), Elton, Boongate, Fletton (BS), Morborne Hill (SD(BS) (KW)), Eldernell (GRH), Werrington (CM) and Monks Wood (RB). A Common Buzzard was at Elton on 16 Sep (BS), at least 10 at Monks Wood on 22 Sep with three on the 28th (RB) and eight on the 30th (BM & GM, TM), one there again on 4 Oct (RB), four at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (JO et al.) and one on 25th (SD) and 27 Sep (CM), one there again on 3rd (AF) and 4 Oct (SD), one East of Newborough on 25 Sep (DB), and one at Apethorpe on 28 Sep (TW). An Osprey was at Morborne Hill on 22 Sep (DP). Kestrels were seen at: Newborough (DB, TS), North Bank ,Tansor GP (BS), Hampton, Eye (TS), Morborne Hill (CM, SD), Eldernell (GRH, CM). A Merlin was at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 19 Sep (BS) and at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH). Two Hobbys were at Baston Fen on 20 Aug with one on 17 Sep and 1 Oct (JR). One at Orton Longueville (SD) and one at Orton Malbourne (BS) on 20 Sep; one at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 21 Sep (BS); two at Monks Wood on 22 Sep (RB) with one on the 30th (BM & GM, TM); three at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (JO et al.) and one on 27 Sep (CM), 3rd (AF) and 4th Oct (SD); and one at Elton on 23rd and 27 Sep (BS). A juvenile Peregrine was at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH).

A Water Rail was heard at Baston Fen in Aug and Sept (JR), one at Ferry Meadows on 26 Sep (TS) and two calling at Drysides Pit on 17 Oct (GW). 96 Coot were counted at Orton BP on 26 Sep (BS) and 80 at CEGB reservoir on 14 Oct (GW).

At Prior Fen there were 80 to 90 Golden Plover on 20 Sep (BS). 16 were at Welland Bank on 29 Sep (TW), 58 at Baston/Langtoft GP on 29 Sep (TW), 40 at Nene Washes on 12 Oct (BS), and one at Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW). 800 plus Lapwing were at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 22 Sep (SD), 270 at Newborough on 27 Sep (DB), 60 at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH), and 150 plus at Baston/Langtoft GP on 29 Sep (TW). Four Ruff were at Baston/Langtoft GP on 29 Sep (TW). 22 Snipe were at Baston Fen on 20 Sep (JR). Five Curlew were at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 20 Sep (BS) and a Greenshank was at Ferry Meadows on 16th and 20 Sep (TS). Two Green Sandpipers were at Ferry Meadows on 11 Sep until the 18th (TS). Four were at Baston Fen on 20 Sep (JR) and one was at Welland Bank on 29 Sep (TW). A Common Sandpiper was at Kings Dyke NR on 25 Sep (GW), at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 28 Sep (BS), Welland Bank on 29 Sep (TW), and Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW).

A 1st winter Mediterranean Gull was at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (BS, JO et al.) and a 1st winter at Orton Mere on 6 Oct (SD). A Yellow-legged Gull (L. a. michahellis) was at Dogsthorpe Tip on 3 Oct (BS).

Ten Stock Doves were at Morborne Hill on 20 Sep and 25 Collared Dove were at Morborne on 27 Sep (BS). Two Turtle Doves were at Holme on 16 Sep (KW), one at Eldernell on 4 Oct (CM) and one at Elton on 10 Oct (BS). Two Barn Owls were at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH).

A Swift was still at Elton on 12 Oct (KS). Kingfishers were at: Ferry Meadows on 25 Sep (TS) and 4 Oct (GW), Bainton GP on 1 Oct (RT), Eldernell on 4 Oct (CM), Werrington on 5 Oct (CM), Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW), and Drysides Pit on 17 Oct (GW).

Two Sand Martins were at Eldernell on 28 Sep (GRH). Five Swallows were at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 3 Oct (BS), one at Tallington Lakes on 9 Oct (BS), two at Elton on 12 Oct with three there on the 15th (BS). 100 House Martins were at Chesterton on 3 Oct (AF), 30 at Ferry Meadows flock on 4 Oct (GW) and one at Elton on 9 Oct (BS). 70 plus Meadow Pipits were at Morborne Hill on 25 Sep (SD) and 55 were there on 30 Sep (KW). A Tree Pipit was at Kings Dyke NR with flock of 30 Meadow Pipits on 29 Sep (GW). 50 Yellow Wagtails were at Deeping High Bank in two flocks on 16 Aug (JR), 22 at Stilton and on 26th and 27 Sep (JD), and one at Morborne Hill on 4 Oct (SD). Two Grey Wagtails were at Baston Fen on 17 Sep (JR); two at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 22 Sep (SD) with one on 22nd, 25th, 28 Sep and 3 Oct (BS), and two again on 4 Oct (CM); two at Elton on 23 Sep with one on 15 Oct (BS); three at Longthorpe on 25 Sep (GRH); four at Bainton GP on 1 Oct (RT); and one at Stanground Wash on 17 Oct (GW). An adult male White Wagtail was in a garden at Stanground in pouring rain on 19 Sep (GW) and 20 plus Pied Wagtails were at Elton on 10 Oct (BS).

A Black Redstart was at Morborne Hill on 4 Oct (SD). A male Whinchat was at Eldernell on 21 Sep (BS). Two Stonechats were at Stanground Wash on 22 Sep with one on 17 Oct (GW); one at Morborne Hill on 3 Oct (AF, BS). Two Wheatears were at Morborne Hill on 23 Sep (JO et al.), one at Maxey/Helpston Road on 29 Sep (JW), one at Kings Dyke NR with a flock of Meadow Pipits on 29 Sep (GW), and three at Dog-in-a-Doublet on 3 Oct (BS). A small party of Fieldfares were at Werrington on 1 Oct (CM). A steady movement of Redwings was noted at Deeping/Stamford on 7 Oct (MC) and one at Elton on 8 Oct (BS). Eight Mistle Thrushes were at Newborough on 27 Sep (DB), 11 at Ferry Meadows on 4 Oct (GW), and five at Morborne Hill on 4 Oct (BS).

A Lesser Whitethroat was at Morborne Hill on 28 Sep (BS). A Whitethroat was at Kings Dyke NR on 20 Sep (GW). Two Blackcaps were at Bainton GP on 1 Oct (RT), one at Drysides Pit on 2 Oct (GW), one at Morborne Hill on 3 Oct (AF), one at Kings Dyke NR on 6 Oct (GW), and one at Morborne Hill on 12 Oct (BS). Five Chiffchaffs were at Bainton GP on 1 Oct (RT), one at Baston Fen on 1 Oct (JR), one at Drysides Pit on 2 Oct (GW), one at Morborne Hill on 3 Oct (BS), two at Ferry Meadows on 4 Oct (GW), and one at Elton on 4 Oct (BS). Three Spotted Flycatchers were at Baston Fen on 26 Sep (TW) and one at Bainton GP on 1 Oct (RT). 37 Long-tailed Tits were at Morborne Hill on 25 Sep (SD). One Willow Tit was at Morborne Hill on 3 Oct (AF). Several Nuthatches were seen at Bedford Purlieus on 24 Sep (BS).

A Jay was at Goosetree on 24 Sep (BS), and one at at Morborne Hill on 27 Sep (CM) and 5 Oct (BS). 1000 Starling were at March Farmers on 28 Sep (GRH). 60 plus Chaffinches were at Baston/Langtoft GP on 15 Oct (TW). 30 Greenfinch were at Newborough on 27 Sep (DB). 30 Goldfinches were at Newborough on 8 Oct (BS). A Lapland Bunting was calling at Morborne Hill on 1 Oct (MC).
