Common migrant breeder, common passage
migrant and scarce winter migrant. Birds were noted during the first winter period at Eldernell, Farcet Fen and Woodwalton Fen NNR. Spring passage was evident from mid-March with peak counts of 22 on 31 March at Woodwalton Fen NNR (SG) and 23 on 4 May at Southey Wood (GRH). The first juvenile was noted on 27 Jul and records continued with diminishing frequency to the year's end. A bird of the Siberian race tristis (JO et al) was found on 9 Dec at Tanholt GP. |

migrant and scarce winter migrant. As with Blackcaps, more records of over-wintering birds were received in 2002. A handful of single birds were recorded during the first winter period at Eldernell, Padholme PS and Woodwalton Fen NNR. Widespread arrival from 12 Mar, with birds reported from across the area until end of October. The peak count was of 15 birds at Ferry Meadows CP on 28 Aug (MJW). Records of breeding and/or juveniles received from Bedford Purlieus NNR, Ferry Meadows CP and Longthorpe. At the tail end of the year, presumed wintering birds were at Eldernell Decoy, Monk’s Wood NNR, Ferry Meadows CP, Tallington GP, Orton Mere and Woodwalton Fen NNR. |

Common migrant breeder, passage migrant and
scarce winter migrant. At the start of the year, no wintering individuals were recorded. The first spring bird was one singing at Bainton GP 11 Mar (AD, MHo). The next record was a week later (18 Mar) with three birds at the same site (TW). The main wave of records began with individuals at Fletton on 23 Mar (AL) and Ferry Meadows CP on 24 Mar (WB). Spring peaks were 15 at Ferry Meadows CP 26 Mar (CHa) and 10 at Bainton GP 25 Mar (BT). The highest counts, however, were at Ferry Meadows CP, where there were 20+ on 7 Sep (MJW). Elsewhere, birds were widely distributed from spring to mid-October. The main bulk of records ended around mid-Oct, after which there were singles at Deeping Lakes NR 28 Oct (TW), Ferry Meadows CP 29 Nov (MW), two at Baston & Langtoft GP 8 Dec (TW) and one at Baston Fen NR 29 Dec (KKH). |

Common summer visitor, rare in winter. Winter records included single birds at Baston & Langtoft GP, Maxey GP, Haddon Crossing, Woodwalton Fen NNR (two Nov-Dec; CBR), March Farmers and Orton BP. Summer visitors were well-distributed, with notable counts being 11+ at Bainton GP on 8 Apr and nine at Ferry Meadows CP on 19 Apr. |

Common summer visitor, rare in winter. Widely distributed. Winter records came from Rice Wood, Helpston, on 16 Feb, Ferry Meadows CP on 17 Feb and 2 Nov, Orton Longueville, Woodwalton Fen NNR and Castor Hanglands NNR (CBR). Singing was noted in March at Ferry Meadows CP, Marholm, Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR, Bainton, Orton BP and Pinnard's Spinney. Late birds were noted throughout October at Orton BP, Ferry Meadows CP and Drysides BP. |

Common summer visitor; scarce winter
visitor. Birds were noted singing from 7 Mar at eight sites. Birds were widespread in suitable habitat, though WEW noted a decline on Milton Golf Course. One or two birds appeared to be wintering at Orton BP and one at Baston & Langtoft GP, with December records from both sites. Nene Washes: Two at Eldernell Pits on 15 Mar were the only birds seen. |
