Scarce passage and winter migrant with occasional breeding noted.
At Southey Wood, 15 on 4 Jan (PT), 12 were present on 25 Jan (CD) with one there on 26 Jan (KAF, MW); two were recorded on 17 Mar (GRH, KW). Seven were at Ham Lane, Ferry Meadows CP, on 13 Feb (SPD) and four were at Castor Hanglands NNR on 25 May (DWi).

2002
Scarce passage and winter migrant with occasional breeding noted.
A good year for this species, with birds reported from three different localities (five sites). Three birds were seen at Castor Hanglands NNR 10 Aug (KAF), with one bird there 11 Sep (KAF, BHS) and three juveniles at nearby Ben Johnson Pit 15 Sep (SPD). At Ferry Meadows CP, 11 over on 18 Aug and three over on 31 Aug, with what could have been the same three also over nearby Orton Brimbles 9 Sep (all MJW). A party of 13 were at Southey Wood 26 Dec (RAs). A male was seen over the Nene Washes 3 Sep (JT).


2001
Scarce passage and winter migrant with occasional breeding noted.
A single bird was heard over
Southey Wood 3 Jan (GRH) and a single over Monk's Wood NNR 24 Jul (MT).

2000
Scarce winter visitor and rare breeder.
The only records of this species came from its traditional stronghold of
Southey Wood, with three there on 13 May and two on 13 Nov.

1999
Scarce winter visitor and rare breeder.
The only record received was of 4-6 birds on 10 Jan at
Southey Wood (KWo).

1998
Rare winter visitor.
Records this year as follows:
Southey Wood: 52 on 10 Jan, c30 on 17 Feb, up to 35 still present on 19 Feb, 11 on 2 Mar, 23 on 8 May (GRH); Wansford: 37 on 19 Feb; Helpston: 49 on 25 Apr; Oxey Wood: 37 on 26 Mar; Rice Wood: 19 on 11 May; Castor Hanglands NNR: one heard on 15 Feb. Only singles were seen after 16 May, with several birds in song at Southey and Oxey Woods (CBR).
