| 2003 |
Scarce. The first report was of a single bird at Whittlesey railway station on 11 Apr (DW). Single birds were then heard at Castor Hanglands NNR on 13 Apr (AA, PA) and Baston Fen NR on 15 Apr (VF). The main arrival of birds came from 16 Apr onwards. No apparent territorial males on the Nene Washes, although singing birds reported from Eldernell and Stanground Wash. Singing males also recorded from a further 11 sites. The last record was of a juvenile at Prior’s Fen GP on 28 Aug (SPD). |

Scarce. The first record was of a bird seen perched in a Market Deeping garden on 29 Mar (JoW), which was heard calling there on 31 Mar (DW), with the main arrival from 16 Apr onwards. Singing birds reported from nine locations. The last record was of a single bird at Ferry Meadows CP on 14 Jul (CH). |

Scarce
migrant breeder and passage migrant. A sad but steady decline continues for a real spring favourite. The first report was one at Elton 20 Apr (BHS) and a male and female were seen together at King’s Dyke NR two days later (GW). A steady arrival occurred from 27 Apr onwards. Calling birds were at Baston & Langtoft GP (WB), Castor Hanglands NNR (PJP), Eldernell (CM), Newborough (DB) and Deeping Lakes NR (WB). A total of five territories held on the Nene Washes (RSPB). Juveniles appeared from 1 Jul onwards with four noted on the Nene Washes RSPB reserve on that date. This was also where the last bird of the year was seen on 9 Sep (RSPB). |

Scarce summer visitor. Noted at 12 sites, in very small numbers even where Reed Warblers were present in good numbers as a potential host species. Four territories were held on the Nene Washes (CBR). No records of juveniles received. First and last dates were 7 Apr at Ferry Meadows CP and 4 Oct at Yaxley Fen. |

Scarce
summer visitor. An exceptionally early bird south of Bourne 22 Mar (DW) was followed by another at Castor 15 Apr (MR). Seven males were on territory on the Nene Washes and singles were recorded from several sites, including Baston & Langtoft GP, Crown Lakes CP, Orton BP and Stanground. Juveniles were seen at Baston & Langtoft GP and Deeping Lakes NR 2 Aug (TW). |

Common summer visitor. Extreme dates were 22 Apr (GRH) and 7 Sep (RD), both at Ferry Meadows CP. Four were at Castor Hanglands NNR on 29 Apr (GRH), with singles reported from Helpston, Baston Fen NR, Morborne Hill, Bassenhally Farm, Yaxley, Southey Wood, Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR and Ailsworth. Nene Washes: The first bird was noted on 24 Apr, but sightings were very scarce, with only two recorded territories in the Eldernell Pit area and at Ring's End. The last bird was noted on 9 Aug. |
