2003
Common resident breeder and winter migrant.
Notable flocks included 50 at Bourne South Fen on 23 Nov (VF) and 50 seen moving west at Deeping St James on 26 Nov (WB). Up to 100 were at March Farmers in December (RSPB). Calling or territorial birds reported from nine locations.

2002
Common resident breeder and winter migrant.
The highest count was of c200 at March Farmers during Jan-Feb (RSPB). Other notable counts included 125 at Eldernell on 31 Jan (BHS) and 75 at White Fen (Benwick) on 17 Dec (RES). Calling or territorial birds were present at eight locations.

2001
Common resident breeder and winter migrant.
Highest counts of 150 at Thorney Dyke 11 Jan (GRH), 112 at Mere Farm, Ramsey Fen 8 Jan (RES), 88 at Flag Fen 5th and 8 Nov (BHS), 65 at White Fen, Benwick (RES), 60 at Baston Fen Farm 18 Feb (GRH), 49 at Milton Golf Course 28 Dec (WEW). At Eldernell, 69 were logged heading west in about an hour 8 Nov (BHS). Also reported from Borough Fen, Elton, Folksworth, Morborne Hill, Newborough, Prior’s Fen GP, and Thurlby Fen.
A pair bred in a derelict factory in Westwood and two pairs held territory at Eldernell Pit and 1 at Lord’s Holt. Otherwise no breeding reports and surprisingly few reported from the Nene Washes and the north of the region.

2000
Common resident.
Records received were widespread, mostly rural, locations, typically involving up to 21 birds, but also 150 at
White Fen 16 Dec, 147 at Ramsey Fen 3 Dec (CBR) and 70 at the Nene Washes area in February. There were 27 at Newborough 1 Sep, 37 at Deeping High Bank 6 Nov, and an exceptional 600 near Baston Fen 16 Dec (GRH).

1999
Common resident.
Winter flocks included 22 at
Newborough 4 Dec (DB) and 64 at Bainton GP 12 Dec (RA). Peak count was of 378 roosting at Eldernell during January. Potentially breeding birds were seen at Elton, Ferry Meadows CP, Morborne Hill, Tansor and Stilton.

1998
Common resident.
Three or four pairs bred at
Milton Golf Course and up to three were singing at Morborne Hill. There were 62 at Frognall on 1 Feb (BT). There was a mixed flock of c500 Stock Doves and Woodpigeons at Holme Fen on 29 Oct (KWo).
Nene Washes: Two pairs bred at Eldernell Pit, with other breeding records from Eldernell Decoy and Lord's Holt. The first winter period saw up to 84 at March Farmers. There were 60 at Eldernell on 27 Aug. Numbers built up at March Farmers from October, reaching 300 birds in December, with a further 31 at Eldernell.
