migrant . One notable record was of 38 juveniles on garden feeders in Werrington on 27 Aug (SC). Larger counts included 75+ at High Wash, Nene Washes, on 26 Aug (SPD, KAF), 300 at Eldernell during September and October (RSPB); 55 Baston Fen NR on 16 Oct with 95 there on 9 Dec (JR) and 60 at King's Dyke Quarry on 31 Dec (GW). |

migrant . A popular species that regularly visits gardens, which account for many of the records. Larger counts included 60 at Ferry Meadows CP on 26 Aug (MJW), Padholme PS on 20 Mar (BHS), Maxey GP on 27 Sep (SPD) and Deeping Lakes NR on 25 Aug (SPD). Towards the end of the year, larger flocks were noted with 300 at Eldernell in Sep (RSPB) and North Bank on 23 Sep (BHS). An albino bird was present at Prior’s Fen GP 6 Oct (SPD) in a flock of 135 (SPD). Two adults carrying food at Prior’s Fen GP on 2 Jun was the only breeding record (SPD). |

Larger counts as follows: on the Nene Washes 15 on 15 Jan, 90 on 10 Sep, 120 on 14 Sep, 60 on 16 Sep and 59 on 16 Dec (RSPB); 15 at Pilsgate SF 21 Feb (PJP); 15 at Peakirk 21 Feb (DB); 12 at Deeping Lakes NR 1 Aug with 80 there on 8 Sep (BT); 50 (largest ever count at the site) at Newborough 22 Aug with 40 there on 5 Sep and 60 on 26 Sep (DB); 20 at Werrington 21 Sep (CM); 80 at Monk's Wood NNR 24 Sep (RBr); 22 at Ferry Meadows CP 2 Nov (BHS); 10 at Bainton GP 4 Nov (BT); 30 at Baston Fen NR 5 Nov (JR); 12 at Eldernell 8 Nov (BHS); and 11 in a Peterborough garden 29 Dec (SS). Up to 40 throughout both winter periods at a garden feeding station in Orton Longueville (SPD, LJ). One pair bred in a Dogsthorpe garden (DW). |

Common resident. Widely-reported throughout the year, with the largest count being 200 or more in a mixed finch flock at Baston Fen Farm on 6 Feb, with a similar number on the Nene Washes in September. Other large counts included 100 at Baston Fen NR on 30 Jan and 150+ there on 6 Sep. |

Common resident. Recorded at Maxey, Baston & Langtoft GP, Bainton GP, Crowtree Farm (Farcet Fen), Warmington, Morborne, Orton BP, Baston Fen NR, Parnwell and Nene Washes. Largest counts were of flocks of 80 at Morborne on 22 Sep and 70+ at Maxey Cut on 12 Sep. |

Common resident. The largest flocks were of c80 on the Yaxley-Farcet footpath on 28 Oct (RL), 24 at Bainton GP on 7 Jan (BT), 19 at Milton Golf Course on 28 Oct (WEW) and 13 at Ferry Meadows CP on 20 Nov (GRH). Other birds were reported from Longthorpe, Castor Hanglands NNR, Bluebell Wood, Willow Hall Lane and Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR. A pair fledged five young in central Peterborough on 18 Jun (WEW). |
