2003
Rare resident breeder.
A total of 14 records received from only two sites. A single bird was at Milton Park on 27 Dec (KD). All remaining records were from Ham Lane, Ferry Meadows CP, between 5 Jan and 19 Feb, with 1-2 birds, a male and a female, recorded on 11 separate dates (MO). The female appeared to be unwell and was not seen after 8 Feb.


2002
Rare resident breeder.
The three birds found at Ferry Meadows CP on 31 Dec 2001 (MJW et al) frequented Ham Lane,
Ferry Meadows CP until 25 Feb (mo), with three seen together on 3 Jan (MJW) and 15 Jan (SPD), delighting many observers.
In the autumn, two birds were again along Ham Lane on 2 Nov (MJW) with one bird present to 21 Dec (MJW, CP, TRo). In Stamford, a single bird was seen near Malcolm Sargent School on 8 Feb and 23 Dec (CP).

2001
Rare resident breeder.
A single bird was present in an Orton Brimbles garden 31 Dec (MJW) and two males were along Ham Lane,
Ferry Meadows CP, on the same date (MJW).

2000
Rare resident.
At Milton Park, three on 11 Feb, two on 16th, singles on 12 Mar, 8 Apr and 25 May (MLB, MGF, DP) and one was in a Longthorpe garden on 19 Apr.


1999
Rare resident.
One at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 2 May, three at
Milton Park on 10 Jun and singles at Mucklands Wood on 27-29 Jul and 2 Aug (CBR). The Milton estate woods are traditional haunts but sightings have been steadily decreasing in recent years.

1998
Rare resident.
One bird was with a mixed finch flock at Orton BP on 17 Nov (GW). A male fed under Hornbeams
Carpinus betulus and Yew Taxus baccata at Milton Golf Course on 17 Dec (WEW), with birds heard calling from Hornbeams there on 28 Dec.
