Introduction
Welcome to the online edition
of Peterborough Birds, the
annual reports produced by Peterborough
Bird Club.
The aim of this project was to make the club's reports more easily
accessible and also more user-friendly. I hope it has achieved this.
There are many advantages of this 'electronic' version:
- The status of any
species can be easily seen and compared year-on-year.
- Hyperlinks from the site
names mean the reader can quickly find out more information about a
location (where a guide to the location exists on the club's website), or at the very
least, see on a map where it is.
- The reports can be
viewed on any computer with Internet access.
- The species account
pages provide an excellent opportunity to utilise the ever-increasing
number of superb photos (and records shots) that are being added to the
photo
gallery.
- The webpage format
allows for 'extras' to be added that would not be possible in a paper
version, and the pages can be updated or modified very quickly (no need
to wait a year to make a correction).
If you have any ideas on
how these pages could be improved, I would be pleased to hear from you. As each new batch of records is added,
there will be opportunities to make changes and add new material. I have made some small changes
to the original text of the annual reports (mainly for reasons of
consistency; eg. Deeping Lakes NR is called that throughout, though it
was formerly known as Welland Bank Pits).
Without records sent in by
birdwatchers, there would be no annual reports. Please keep submitting
records, whether via Peterbirder or directly to Brian Stone. I hope I have added a new
dimension to the hard work put in by the report editors, who are:
1998: George Walthew
1999: Martin Coates,
Duncan Poyser, Matt Webb, Trevor Williams
2000: Martin Coates, Matt
Webb, Trevor Williams
2001: Steve Dudley
2002/2003: Nicola
Orchard and Brian Stone
I hope you find these pages useful.
