The peak count was of six birds at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 1 Jan (WB, RB). Elsewhere, 1-4 birds recorded from 19 other locations. No confirmed records of breeding were received. |

| 2001 |
Scarce resident breeder and scarce passage
migrant. Jays are always notable locally and this year they were widely recorded across the PBC area (again partly thanks to survey work by PJP). In autumn, six were seen collecting acorns at Milton Golf Course (WEW) and four (the next highest count) were at Hayes Wood 9 Jan (PJP). Between 1-3 birds were recorded from Southey Wood, Simon’s Wood, Oxey Wood, Milton Park, Bainton GP, Baston & Langtoft GP, Marholm, Lolham Bridges, Bedford Purlieus NNR, Longthorpe, Castor Hanglands NNR, Milton Park, Elton, Deeping Lakes NR, Morborne Hill, Stamford, Woodwalton Fen NNR, Bretton, Barnack Hills & Holes NNR and Stanley House, Peterborough. |
| 2000 |
Uncommon resident. Recorded at Holme Fen NNR, Short Wood, Jones's Covert, Nene Washes, Ferry Meadows CP, King's Cliffe, Southey Wood, Orton BP, Hampton, Goosetree and Morborne Hill. The only records involving more than one bird were six at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 16 Dec, two there on 12 May, two at Old Sulehay on 26 Jun and two at Bainton GP on 15 Oct. |
| 1999 |
Uncommon resident. Records received from Ferry Meadows CP, Woodwalton Fen NNR, Etton, Parnwell, Morborne Hill, Bainton GP, Castor Hanglands NNR, Jones's Covert and Southey Wood. |
| 1998 |
Common resident. Two pairs bred on Milton Golf Course. Single birds were reported from Lolham Farm, Bainton GP and Ferry Meadows CP. One in a central Peterborough garden on 24 Oct (WEW) was probably a migrant from the continent, coinciding with large numbers arriving on the Norfolk coast. Nene Washes: Two were seen along the counter drain on 11 Oct. |
