2003	Common resident breeder and passage migrant. Notable counts included 130 at Padholme PS on 4 Feb (BHS) and 450 at Blackpool Hill, Farcet Fen, on 23 Oct (SPD). During the breeding season, three pairs were at Black Bush on 21 Apr (SPD, KAF) with pairs also reported from Holme Fen, Crowtree (Farcet Fen) and Orton BP.
2002	Common resident breeder and passage migrant. Recorded at 35 sites with the Nene Washes holding the largest numbers with 330 during Jan-Feb (RSPB) and 200 on there on 3 Mar (RSPB). Other notable flocks included a maximum of 100 at Hampton Lakes 8 Aug and 90 there on 23 Sep (both BHS), 120 at Eldernell Pits on 7 Oct (RSPB) and up to 150 at Padholme PS 2 Nov (BHS). Singing birds recorded at Nene Washes RSPB reserve 20 Mar (BHS), Deeping Lakes NR 1 Apr (WB) and Elton 13 Jul (BHS).
2001	Common resident breeder and passage migrant. During the first winter period, concentrations were recorded as follows – 90 along the Nene Washes (March Farmers) 23 Jan (RSPB), 60 along Marholm Lane 10 Feb (MJW), 40 at Milton Park 1 Jan (MJW), 29 at Baston & Langtoft GP 4 Mar (TW), 28 at Maxey GP 7 Jan (RAs) and 14 at Dog-in-a-Doublet 20 Mar (BHS). Birds also recorded from Benwick (two), Deeping Fen Farm (two) and Morborne Hill (two). During the breeding season up to 30 at Deeping Lakes NR 13 Apr (TW), 30 on a set-aside field at Benwick 20 May (RES) and 18 at Hampton Hargate 16 Apr (SPD). Two pairs were present at Bainton GP (BT) with birds also recorded from Dog-in-a-Doublet (two), Orton BP (eight) and Ramsey Fen (two). Autumn counts of 60 over at Nene Washes 2 Oct (RSPB), 36 at Prior’s Fen GP 3 Sep (SPD), 20 at Elton 10 Sep (BHS) and 20 Baston & Langtoft GP 24 Oct (WB). The highest winter count was 389 along the Nene Washes 16 Dec (RSPB) with 20 at Prior’s Fen GP 27 Dec (GW). Records also from Dogsthorpe, Hampton Vale (eight), Milton Park and Eldernell (six).
2000	Common resident. Maximum numbers reported included 54 near Conington on 23 Apr, 65 at Baston & Langtoft GP on 8 Sep, 220 at Beeby's BP on 20 Oct, 166 at Morborne Hill 1 Nov, 80+ at Deeping High Bank on 6 Nov and 40 at Yaxley Fen on 3 Dec. On the Nene Washes, 40-100 were present January-April and up to 75 on the RSPB reserve September-October.
1999	Common resident. Maximum counts included 200 near Apethorpe on 26 Sep (ARF), 90 at Newborough on 10 Nov, 80 at Crown Lakes CP on 22 Sep and 80 at Sibson Lake on 20 Aug.
1998	Common resident. The biggest flock was c70 on Yaxley Fen on 19 Jan (ARF). Eight were at Ferry Meadows CP on 22 Apr and ten at Crown Lakes CP on 6 Jun. Linnets are common and widespread in the Deepings area.
