A total of 35 records from 17 locations were received in 2003. Notable counts were of 56 at Eldernell on 27 Feb (SPD), 51 at Deeping St James on 2 Mar (BT) and 97 at Crowtree, Farcet Fen on 5 Nov (SPD).

2002
Common resident breeder. Numbers often swollen by released birds.
A major increase in the number of records received, 84 in 2002 compared to only five in 2001. Recorded from 27 locations; notable counts included 50 at Flag Fen on 30 Mar (GRH), 112 at Orton BP on 9 Oct (SPD) and a minimum of 78 at Farcet Fen on 19 Dec (SPD).

2001
Common resident breeder. Numbers often swollen by released birds.
Despite being common and widespread, only five records were received. One at Morborne Hill on 10 Sep (BHS), two at Prior’s Fen GP on 12th and 14 Sep (BHS), one in a Peterborough garden 24 Dec (MW) and 15 at Deeping Lakes NR 31 Dec (BT).


2000
Common resident.
There were no exceptional counts made at the Nene Washes
. Three were seen swimming in floods there to escape gunshot on 3 Dec.
1999
Common resident.
Only two records. 157 counted at March Farmers 3 Jan and 20 at Deeping High Bank 29 Oct.

1998
Common resident.
Very few records were received. The best count was of 13 along Willow Hall Lane on 28 May (DS).
Nene Washes: March Farmers was the place for this species, with regular counts of 100+, so there was probably more than double this actually present.
