Rare
resident breeder. Most records of this exotic come from the Baston & Langtoft GP area where there is a resident population. A maximum of 14, including seven males and seven females/immatures, were seen on 27 Sep (SPD). Birds were present during the breeding season with a group of 13, including four juveniles seen on 11 Aug (SPD). Away from Baston & Langtoft GP, two birds were noted at Langtoft West End GP on 25 Jan (GRH) and a single bird at Bainton GP on 17 Nov (BT). What may possibly have been the same bird was noted at Maxey GP on the same day (BT). |
| 2001 |
Rare
resident breeder. This colourful duck is resident in the Baston & Langtoft GP area, with maxima of 17 on 7 Oct (BT) and 16 on 4 Jan (MF, TW) and 2–16 Dec (TW). At least two pairs were noted during the breeding season, but no broods were seen. One male was at Bainton GP on 31 Mar. The only other records were a male at Tallington GP 21 Jan (TW), a female at Deeping Lakes NR 16 Sep (TW) and an adult female at Orton BP, 2–16 Oct (BHS, SPD). |
| 2000 |
Rare
local resident. Apart from two at Lolham on 18 Mar, this species was only recorded in the Baston & Langtoft GP area, where it was resident throughout the year. There was a maximum count of 15 on 2 Jul, comprising eight males, five females and two juveniles, with another female present on 16th. At least two broods were recorded, but by 19 Nov, only four pairs remained (TW). Nevertheless, this long-established but vulnerable population (of feral origin) appears to be slowly increasing. There have been no records of presumed 'wild' birds from mainland Europe in recent years. |
| 1999 |
Rare
local resident and winter visitor. Almost exclusively restricted to Baston & Langtoft GP, where up to five males were noted, forming at least three pairs with a maximum of six juveniles noted 4 Jul (TW, AB). A tame bird at Orton Mere in Mar/Apr (BHS). |
