| 2000 |
Common resident and winter visitor. Large counts came from King's Cliffe on 3 Jan, when there were 250+, and Morborne Hill, where there were 200+ on 1 Nov. This species is a prime candidate for a PBC area-wide spring survey. |

Common resident. Nest counts in rookeries included Peakirk Wildfowl Collection 65; Peakirk village 63; Peakirk High Bank 24; Glinton 21; Deeping Gate 19; Bainton GP 13; Ben Johnson Pit 15, representing a population density of at least 6.5 nests/km sq (cf 13/km sq in 1946 and 4+/km sq in 1975, suggesting a population increase since the 1970s low point (CBR). The only significant records were of 80 at Ferry Meadows CP on 1 Feb, 100 at Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR on 28 Feb and 100 in Dogsthorpe on 30 May (all DS).
