Scarce
passage and winter migrant. Up to six birds were reported from Etton GP during March with numbers falling during April. Five were present at Deeping Lakes NR on 3-10 Aug (WB, RB) with up to two birds there during the remainder of the year. Four were at Deeping Fen on 30 Jan (PNW). Up to three were at Maxey GP during Jul-Oct with four there on 4 Aug (KD). One or two birds also reported from an additional 33 locations. |

Scarce
passage and winter migrant. Small numbers present in the two winter periods with a noticeable increase in records during autumn migration. At Padholme PS, 1-2 birds present during the two winter periods with four there on 14 Mar (BHS). Ten were at Baston & Langtoft GP on 10 Aug (DW, TW). At Deeping Lakes NR, 1-2 birds present during the first winter and spring passage period with numbers increasing from mid-June onwards with 10 birds present on 28 Jul (TW) and at least six on 3 Aug (WB). At Etton GP, only small numbers were reported during autumn passage but numbers increased during the second winter period with eight there on 25 Nov (KAF, BHS). Up to three birds were also reported from a further nine locations. |

Scarce
passage and winter migrant. During the first winter period, singles recorded from Stowe scrape 6 Jan (GRH) and 25 Mar (BT), Nene Washes (Stanground) 15 Jan and 12 Feb (RSPB), Deeping Lakes NR 25–26 Feb (AB, AD, TW), Baston & Langtoft GP from 10 Mar–14 Apr (WB, BT, TW). The first signs of passage came from Deeping Lakes NR, with three there on 13 Apr (TW). During late spring and early summer, recorded from Ferry Meadows CP (max. three on 27–30 Jun (TD et al), Nene Washes (max. five on 26 Jun) (MF), Baston & Langtoft GP (max. three on 22 Jun) (TW), Deeping Lakes NR (max. four on 26 Jun) (TW). Autumn passage picked up during July, with up to ten birds present at Deeping Lakes NR 26 July (TW), three Dog-in-a-Doublet 29th (WB), two Maxey GP 30th (TW) and three Ferry Meadows CP throughout (MO). Numbers peaked in August, with 12 present at Deeping Lakes NR 1st and 5 Aug (BT), four on the Nene Washes 9th (RSPB), two at Prior’s Fen GP 17-31 Aug (SPD, GW) and five at Ferry Meadows CP throughout the month (MO). One to two birds remained throughout Sep at Ferry Meadows CP, Deeping Lakes NR and Prior’s Fen GP. Singles were at Fletton BP 15 Oct (MW) and Borough Fen 7 Nov (DB), and two birds wintered along the River Welland from 24 Oct–31 Dec and were seen at Deeping Lakes NR and along the roadside drain along nearby Deeping High Bank during hard weather (BT, TW). A single was also seen at Baston & Langtoft GP 31 Dec (AD). |

Uncommon
migrant, scarce winter visitor. In the first winter period, singles at Bainton GP on 1st, 16 Jan and 16 Feb, Stowe scrape 8-9 Jan and 13 Feb, Nene Washes 16 Jan, 6 Mar, Baston & Langtoft GP 23 Jan, 18 Mar with two one 14 Feb and three on 26 Mar. Stilton Fen storm reservoir had one on 21 Feb, two 23 Feb and a single was at Stowe scrape 17 Mar. In April, two at Ben Johnson and Swaddywell Pits, 1-4 at Bainton GP, Baston & Langtoft GP, Deeping Lakes NR, Stowe scrape, North Bank, King's Dyke BP, Maxey GP, Nene Washes and Drysides BP. One at Hampton Lakes 12 May and two at McCain's BP 13 May. Langtoft West End GP had 1-11 from 11 Jun-17 Sep and an excellent 17 on 30 Jul. One at Swaddywell Pit 20 Jun, with two on 6 Aug. Deeping Lakes NR 1-6 from 17 Jul-30 Sep, with ten on 18 Jul. Ferry Meadows CP had 1-4 from 10 Jul-18 Sep. Yaxley Fen had 1-4 3 Jul-16 Sep, Langtoft West End GP 1-3 between 5-26 Aug, Drysides BP 1-3 between 15-29 Jul. Baston Fen NR had four 20 Sep. King's Dyke NR had 1-2 between 23 Aug-21 Oct; Prior's Fen GP had singles 25 Aug and 6 Sep; one was at Orton BP on 10 Sep. Early winter records included an impressive nine in the counter drain north of Stanground Wash 19 Nov, a single there 18 Dec and one over the High Wash 29 Dec. Two were at King's Dyke BP 21 Oct, and singles at Bainton GP 4th and 12 Nov, at Stowe scrape 10 Dec and one at Swaddywell Pit Nov-Dec. |

Widespread
migrant, scarce winter visitor. In the first winter period, singles were at Milton Folly storm reservoir 15 Feb, Nene Washes 18-21 Feb and three at Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR 14 Mar. In April, singles were at Langtoft West End GP 2nd and 10 Apr, at Baston & Langtoft GP 2-3 Apr. During return passage, Baston & Langtoft GP held 1-6 birds 23 Jul-12 Sep with a peak count of eight on 7 Aug. Ferry Meadows CP held 1-4 birds 20 Aug-18 Sep with a peak count of five 24-31 Aug. One or two birds were seen along the tidal river adjacent to the Nene Washes 26-31 Aug. Elsewhere, Deeping Lakes NR held two on 2 Aug and 14 Aug, and singles were noted at Crowtree Reservoir (Farcet Fen), Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR, McCain's BP, Bainton GP, Hampton Lakes, Maxey Cut and Sawtry Fen. Winter birds were noted at Yaxley Fen, Stowe scrape, Maxey Cut, Elton, Orton BP and Ferry Meadows CP, with two at Stilton Fen 18 Dec and three at Baston & Langtoft GP 7 Nov. |

Common migrant, scarce winter visitor. Wintering or spring passage birds were at Baston Fen NR (7 Feb), Stowe scrape (two on 15 Feb; one 28 Mar), Maxey GP (two on 14 Mar), Tallington GP (two on 21 Mar; one 25 Apr) and Baston & Langtoft GP (21 Mar, 25 Apr). The first returning birds were four at Baston & Langtoft GP (18 Jul; nine there on 8 Sep). Other autumn/winter records came from Fletton BP, Deeping Lakes NR, Ferry Meadows CP, Baston Fen NR, Market Deeping, Stanground and Deeping Common. Nene Washes: There were no wintering records. Two were seen on 18 Jun, with singles on 30 Jun and 4 Jul. Birds were then seen daily from 22 Jul-16 Aug, with five on 24 Jul and four on 11 Aug. One was present on 11 Sep. |
