Widespread summer visitor and common
migrant. A first for the PBC area and Cambridgeshire! An adult female showing characteristics of the race isabellinus (also known as Daurian Shrike) was found (JT) close to the Dog-in-a-Doublet on the morning of 8 Sep and remained until the next day. The bird spent most of its time feeding along the reed-fringed fence line at the west end of the RSPB reserve, taking Migrant Hawker dragonflies Aeshna mixta and other insects. The bird was seen by several hundred observers during its short stay. |
