An elusive drake was found on the Nene Washes at Eldernell on 16 Feb (CK). It was seen again on the RSPB reserve on 23 Feb (MW), 4th and 31 Mar (JT). A drake, possibly the same bird, was found at Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR, 26-29 Oct (KD et al), having possibly been present for several weeks!

An elusive drake was present at
RSPB Nene Washes between 22-26 Mar (BHS et al), frequenting the Lord’s Holt and Eldernell area. It, or another, was at Lord’s Holt on 16 Apr (SPD). This is the third record for the PBC area. Prior to 2000, there had been no local records of this North American vagrant, but it has occurred every year since.

2001
Vagrant.
Doubtless overlooked in the past, a male on the Nene Washes 14 Apr (PC) was not totally unexpected, given the number of Teal that pass through that site and the pattern of records elsewhere in Cambridgeshire. Nevertheless, this was only the second local record of this North American vagrant, hard on the heels of the previous year’s bird at Ferry Meadows CP.

2000
Vagrant.
An adult male at
Ferry Meadows CP from 7-10 Apr was a new species for the PBC area (DG, SPD et al). A close relative of the Teal, this rare North American species had been recorded 15 times elsewhere in Cambridgeshire up to 1999, and was therefore 'overdue' locally. This was an exceptional find away from the big Teal flocks of the Nene Washes.
1999
No records.

1998
No records.
