2003
Common resident breeder, passage migrant and winter migrant
Breeding birds noted at several locations with peak late summer counts of 22 at Fletton BP on 3 Sep (BHS) and 41 at Grummit’s Scrape on 5 Sep (PA). A peak winter count of 20 birds was recorded at Stone Bridge Corner on 11 Nov (BHS).

2002
Common resident breeder, passage migrant and winter migrant.
Recorded from 42 sites in the area and in every month of the year. The peak count was of 28 at Stone Bridge Corner on 16 Oct (BHS). Singing was first noted on 23 Jan at Elton, and latterly at Eldernell 20 Nov.


2001
Common resident breeder, passage migrant and winter migrant.
Reported in every month from a total of 24 sites. A large flock of 50+ at Burghley Park on 12 Jul (TD) compares well with the largest ever in the area (and in Cambs) of 75 at Milton Park in Sep 1993. Other post-breeding flocks of 26 at Morborne Hill 29 Jul (RP) and 23 at Ferry Meadows CP on 11th (CP) and 14 at Prior’s Fen GP 1 Aug (GW).

2000
Common resident.
Well-distributed but with a notable gap in records between February and July
. Peak counts were 53 at Milton Park on 1 Aug, 17 at Woodcroft Lodge on 7 Jun (CBR), 16 at Helpston on 3 Sep and 18 at Newborough on 18 Aug. Evidence of breeding is under-recorded; the only record received was of four juveniles at Morborne Hill on 26 Jul.

1999
Common resident.
Widespread resident, well-distributed. Records of note included 17 birds at
Yaxley Fen on 13 Jan and 12 at Newborough on 10 Dec. Probable breeding pairs were noted at Deeping St James, Glinton, Etton, Ferry Meadows CP, Crowtree (Farcet Fen), Stanground and Hampton. A bird was singing at the New Road roundabout on 11 Mar.

1998
Common resident.
Large flocks included 39 at Milton Park on 18 Aug (WEW), 39 at Newborough on 20 Sep (GH), 17 on Yaxley Fen on 13 Dec (BHS) and eight at Morborne Hill on 18 May (BHS). Five or six pairs at
Milton Park were heavily predated by crows.
Other birds were noted in central Peterborough, Maxey GP, Nene Bridge, Maxey, Eye Green, Bainton GP, Bluebell Wood, Southey Wood, Thorney and Deeping Gate.
Nene Washes: There were no notable gatherings. One was on the reserve on 27 May. Birds breed on the reserve side of Whittlesey.
