2003
Scarce passage migrant and scarce winter migrant.
The future must look bright for this species in the region, with so much habitat creation in progress, and 2003 was a good year.
There were one or two Bearded Tits on the RSPB Nene Washes reserve from 12 Jan-19 Mar (RSPB), when a vocal and flighty male was seen. Two were present at Baston Fen NR up to 2 Mar (JR). Up to two birds were present at an undisclosed site between mid-March and early April. The only summer record was of a male which showed well at Gault Wood near March, 10-12 Jul (AP, WF, BHS).
More records came from the Nene Washes, with six in an inaccessible reedbed from 12-16 Sep, with at least one or two present until 23 Nov (RSPB). At Fletton BP there was an adult male and female on 5 Dec (SPD, KAF, BHS, PT, MW).

2002
Scarce passage migrant and scarce winter migrant.
Following the family party reported in 2001, another remarkable run of autumn records for this usually scarce species. Amazingly, three birds were found on the 19 October – a male on the Nene Washes (JO) remaining until the next day (RSPB); a male was at Prior’s Fen GP (GW); and a bird heard calling at Woodwalton Fen NNR (MH, JL, DP).
Next day, 20 Oct, two were found at
Baston Fen NR (JR) and at least two birds were seen at Prior’s Fen GP 25 Oct (MW). Two birds were found on the Eldernell Wash part of the Nene Washes 28 Oct (JT), where they were seen regularly by RSPB staff until 9 Dec.

2001
Scarce passage migrant and scarce winter migrant.
Reward for working a ‘patch’ regularly came with the discovery of a probable family party of five Bearded Tits (adult male, adult female and three juveniles) in the reed fringe of the north-east corner of the pits at
Prior’s Fen GP 20-25 Oct (SPD et al).
