2003
Common resident breeder.
Though this species has a strong association with pine trees, it also inhabits broadleaved woodland. The peak count was of 15 at Southey Wood on 4 May (GRH). Birds visiting gardens often take black sunflower seeds.

2002
Common resident breeder.
Most records of this species are from woodland areas, however there continues to be an increase in the number of reports of birds visiting gardens and bird feeders; birds were recorded visiting gardens in Deeping St James (WB), Elton (BHS), Longthorpe (MB) and Orton Brimbles (MJW).

2001
Common resident breeder.
This species remains under-recorded locally. Records were received throughout the year (though mainly in winter). Birds were seen at Southey Wood (TW),
Elton (BHS, KS); Bainton GP (BT, AD), three Orton Longueville gardens (MB, GRH, SS), Milton (MW), Deeping Lakes NR (WB, TW), Deeping St James (WB), a Dogsthorpe garden (DWi), a West Town, Peterborough, garden (MW), and Broadway, Peterborough (DWi).

2000
Common resident.
Very few records were received for this species, which must be under-recorded in the area
. Records came from Elton, Bainton GP, central Peterborough, Woodwalton Fen NNR, Castor Hanglands NNR, Market Deeping and Southey Wood.

1999
Common resident.
Few records received, mostly in winter. One on 24 Jul at Orton BP was an unusual record.


1998
Common resident.
Two pairs at Milton Golf Course was probably an underestimate. Four juveniles were seen in
Market Deeping and other birds were reported from Castor Hanglands NNR, Southey Wood, central Peterborough and Baston & Langtoft GP.
