Common migrant breeder and common passage
migrant. The first birds to arrive were recorded on 16 April at Drysides BP (GW) and Deeping Lakes NR (WB). The last bird of the year was a particularly late bird on 30 Oct at the Dog-in-a-Doublet. Peak counts included 20 singing at Thurlby Fen on 17 May (JR) and up to 15 at Deeping Lakes NR on 15 Jun (RB, WB, DW, TW). |

migrant. The first bird was recorded on 14 Apr at Nene Washes (RSPB) with widespread arrival from 24 Apr. Reports were received from 17 locations, with notable counts as follows: 20 singing at Prior’s Fen GP on 16 May (GW). Also reported from a further nine locations. The last record was from Deeping Lakes NR on 17 Oct (WB), 16 days later than in 2001. During the breeding season, 107 singing males on the Nene Washes distributed as follows: Stanground Wash one, High Wash zero, RSPB Low Wash 30, Eldernell Wash 15, March Farmers 59, Ring's End two. Counter Drain and Eldernell Pits not counted. Singing birds also recorded at Elton, Ferry Meadows CP, Fletton BP, Hampton Lakes, King’s Dyke NR and Woodwalton Fen NNR. |

Common migrant breeder and passage migrant. The first were seen at Orton BP (one) (SPD) and Bainton GP (seven) (BT) on 26 Apr. Ramsey Fen recorded the highest numbers, with 15 on 20 Jun and 13 on 20 May (RES). At Prior’s Fen GP, nine were counted 31 Aug with eight still present on 3 Sep (SPD). At least seven were seen at Bainton GP 26 Apr (BT) and six at the Nene Washes 22 Sep (RSPB). Elsewhere, birds reported from Baston & Langtoft GP, King’s Dyke NR, Langtoft, Morborne Hill, Deeping Lakes NR, Wittering and White Fen (Benwick). The latest bird was at Ferry Meadows CP on 1 Oct (SPD). |

Common summer visitor. Away from the Nene Washes, where 106 pairs bred, Bainton GP was this species' most densely-populated location, with 18 territories noted there on 1 May. Recorded elsewhere between 22 Apr and 2 Sep at Ferry Meadows CP, Holme Fen NNR, Orton BP, Drysides BP, Eldernell, Baston & Langtoft GP, Etton and the High Wash, with a peak count of up to four singing at Swaddywell Pit during the breeding season. |

Common summer visitor. Recorded at Orton BP, Ferry Meadows CP, Nene Washes, Baston & Langtoft GP and King's Dyke. The first singing bird was at Orton BP on 21 Apr. The latest recorded date was of birds at King's Dyke and Eldernell on 5 Sep. Of interest was a record of a bird in a Longthorpe garden on 7 Aug. |

Common summer visitor. A bird was at the traditional site of Bluebell Bridge, Ferry Meadows CP, on 24 Apr (GRH). Other sightings came from Eye Green (two on 27 Apr and four on 6 Jul), four at Crown Lakes CP on 6 Jun, three at Washingley Lakes on 6 Jun, one at Baston & Langtoft GP on 21 Jun and the final four at Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR on 18 Aug (DS). Nene Washes: The first bird was noted on 23 Apr. Breeders had the same problem as Sedge Warblers, so only 13 pairs were on the washes. Eldernell Pits held 90, compared with 31 last year. The counter drain to the west of Eldernell held 43, reflecting healthy numbers. |
