2003	Rare winter and passage migrant. A sighting of this brightly-coloured bird is guaranteed to brighten up a dull winter’s day. Click for more Reports came from 10 locations. Four were present at Crown Lakes CP (pictured far left) on 10 Jan (HB, SPD, MW, KAF) and were seen associating with Fieldfares. An adult was at Toftland, Orton Morborne, on 11 Jan (CSy). A flock of 17 flew over Sawtry on 13 Jan (BirdGuides.com) and a single was at West Town, Peterborough, on 19 Jan (MW). Eight were seen at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 1 Feb (DR). March saw 20 birds at Market Deeping on 15 Mar (TW); these were first reported on 8 Mar; up to seven birds were very mobile in the Longthorpe area (pictured above, right), feeding on crab apple (Malus) between 16-20 Mar (MO). At the tail end of the year, single birds were seen in Stamford on 27 Oct (BirdGuides.com) and a single bird seen briefly at Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR on 25 Dec (KD) was surely reward for walking off the turkey dinner.
2002	Rare winter and passage migrant. The only record was of a single juvenile at Toftland, Orton Malborne, on 30 Dec (CSy).
2001	Rare winter and passage migrant. A relatively good year but all frustratingly short-stayers: two at Baston & Langtoft GP on 1 Jan (TDi), 30 at Helpston 3-4 Jan (JB, JCr), two feeding on guelder rose on Milton Golf Course 7 Jan (WEW), three along Shrewsbury Avenue, Orton Longueville, 10 Feb (MJW), two by the Market Deeping bypass 18 Feb (per GRH) and five at Orton Mere 1 Apr (CHa).
2000	No records.
1999	Rare winter visitor. A bird was seen briefly at Morborne Hill on 17 Nov (BHS).
