2003
Common resident breeder, winter and passage migrant.
Reported from 27 locations across the PBC area. Largest counts included 2,800+ at Crowtree, Farcet Fen, on 12 Jan, with 4,300+ at Hod Fen, Yaxley, on 13 Jan (both SPD). At least 2,000 roosted at Deeping Lakes NR on 23 Oct (WB) and 2,000+ were on fields at Morborne Hill on 24 Oct (GW). No breeding records were received.

2002
Common resident breeder, winter and passage migrant.
Larger counts included 3,000+ southeast at Orton BP on 9 Jan (BHS), 2,000 at Elton on 27 Jan (BHS), 800+ at Prior’s Fen GP on 14 Sep (SPD), 1,000+ at Upwood on 24 Nov (KW) and 1,340+ at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 28 Dec (SPD).

2001
Common resident breeder, winter and passage migrant.
Largest flocks noted at Elton with c2,000 on 6 Nov and 1,400 on 29 Dec (BHS). A movement of 700 south over Prior’s Fen GP 1 Oct (BHS) and at least 500 at Milton Park 22 Dec (MJW). Recorded from a further six sites, but generally under-recorded.

2000
Common resident and winter visitor.
An under-recorded species, the largest winter flocks being 4-500 at Morborne Hill 1 Nov,
c2,000 Orton BP 24 Jan, 1,515 at White Fen 16 Dec, 1,150 at Ramsey Fen 3 Dec, 2,500 at Eldernell Decoy Wood 14 Jan and 900 at Baston & Langtoft GP 19 Nov.

1999
Common resident and winter visitor.
All records were of large flocks, including more than 1,000 roosting at
Eldernell during the winter and 1,500 at Morborne Hill 17 Oct (BHS).

1998
Common resident, winter visitor.
The largest flock was of c2,000 birds on a rape field at Castor Mill on 3 Feb (GW).
Nene Washes: The roost at Eldernell Decoy was counted only once, with 1,600 present on 9 Jan. Up to 400 fed on the reserve in March. Farmland adjacent to March Farmers held 3,500 on 6 Dec.
