1998 | 1999 | 2000 | 2001 | 2002 | 2003

2003
Common resident breeder..
Woodwalton Fen NNR once again returned the maximum count of this species, with 33 recorded on 31 Mar (SG). Singing birds reported from Farcet Fen, Stibbington, Ring Haw and King’s Dyke NR.

2002
Common resident breeder.
Common at any site in the PBC area with suitable cover. The maximum count received was of 20 at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 23 Nov (KWo). On 22 Jul, seven were trapped and ringed in willow carr at Ferry Meadows CP (CHu).

2001
Common resident breeder.
Britain’s most abundant bird is also a very common bird in the area. For example, described as a common garden bird in Dogsthorpe (DW). This said, records were only received from just six sites with maximum counts of 15 on the Nene Washes on 17 Dec (RSPB), four at Morborne Hill and eight at Ferry Meadows CP (although this would be a vast underestimate of the total for the park).

2000
Common resident.
Only reported from five sites, which included a record of five juveniles dust-bathing at
Ferry Meadows CP (26 Sep). At Eldernell Pits, 14 territories were noted, giving some idea of just how common this species can be in suitable areas. There was a count of 40+ at Woodwalton Fen NNR on 16 Nov (CBR).

1999
Common resident.
At Eldernell Pits, 13 territories were recorded; the only other record received was of two birds at Warmington on 31 Oct.

1998
Common resident.
Widespread.
Nene Washes:
Eldernell Pits held 11 territories, compared with ten last year. The highest winter wash counts were 22 (15 Feb) and 20 (8 Nov).
