Common and widespread resident breeder,
passage migrant and winter migrant. A further increase in the number of locations from which this species was recorded, up to 57 in 2003. The peak count was of 70 birds at Deeping Fen Farm on 26 Jan (MO). Other notable counts included 46+ at Outgang Road, Deeping St James, on 24 Feb (WB), 40+ at Park House Farm (Farcet Fen) on 9 Jan (SPD) and 40+ at Milton Park on 24 Feb (KAF). Singing birds reported from 13 locations. |

Common and widespread resident breeder,
passage migrant and winter migrant. A welcome increase in records with birds recorded at 44 sites across the whole area. The largest flock was of up to 100 at Swaddywell Pit throughout Dec (RAs). Other notable flocks as follows: 50 at Castor Hanglands NNR on 2 Mar (MJW), up to 65 near Farcet Cemetery on 19 Dec (SPD) and 50 at Thurlby Fen on 24 Dec (VF). Singing birds were reported from Helpston (43 singing in the area (RAs)), Morborne Hill (up to four), King’s Dyke NR and King's Cliffe, with two young seen at King’s Dyke NR 16 Jun (PP). |

Common and widespread resident breeder,
passage migrant and winter migrant. During the first winter period, recorded in good numbers from several locations with maximum counts of 16 from Helpston 6 Jan (RAs), 12 at Maxey GP 7 Feb, up to 100 at the Eldernell Pits feeding station 3 Feb (WB), 13 at Newborough 2 Feb (DB), 30 at Deeping Fen Farm 18 Feb (GRH) and 20 at Hill Farm, Thorney, 25 Feb (GW). Also recorded from Ramsey Fen (two), Hampton Lakes (one), Peakirk (seven) and Morborne Hill (four). Up to eight singing males were present at Newborough (DB), with breeding season reports also from (numbers in brackets) Dogsthorpe Star Pit NR (four), Maxey GP (one), Ferry Meadows CP (two) and Deeping Lakes NR (one). During the second winter period, double-figure counts from only four sites – 14 at Morborne Hill10 Sep (BHS), 11 at Newborough 7 Nov (DB), 10 at Castor Mill 18 Nov (CHa) and up to 40 along Castor Road near Castor 14 Dec (MJW). Other winter records from (max counts in brackets) Haddon (one), Deeping Lakes NR (two), Prior’s Fen GP (three), Flag Fen (four), Nene Washes (eight), Beeby’s BP (one) and Baston Fen NR (five). |

Common resident. This species was recorded throughout the year from a variety of locations. Large counts included 100 at Milton Park on 29 Dec, 40+ at King's Cliffe on 6 Jan, 40 at Folksworth on 2 Feb and at Casewick on 3 Nov. There were 30+ at Hill Farm, Thorney, on 9 Jan and Yaxley Fen on 8 Apr, with there on 19 Feb and 30 on 8 Apr. |

Common resident. Large counts included 50 at Newborough on 19 Nov, 35+ at Nine Bridges on 28 Feb and 28 at Thurlby Slipe on 21 Nov. |

Common resident. Large flocks included 44 at Maxey GP (18 Jan), 30+ at Yaxley Fen (19 Jan), with 100+ there on 23 Jan, c40 on 23 Mar and 55 on 12 Dec, 84 at Baston (24 Jan), c20 at Haddon (21 Feb), c60 at Folksworth church (21 Feb) and 40 at Nine Bridges (31 Oct). The species increased in number on Milton Golf Course. A bird was seen mobbing an unidentified owl at dusk on 4 Nov. Nene Washes: Scarce. One at Ring's End (17 May) suggested breeding there. Two were at Eldernell Pits in November. |
